Next show we attended was the Frank Sinatra Tribute Concert by the Ron King Big Band featuring Mr. Gary Anthony at the Assembly Hall 1. We promised Lee that we would watch this last concert of the big band. Mr. Anthony not only sounds like but even looks like ol’ blue eyes! The charts of the big band were off the hook. Even the most overplayed Sinatra anthem sounded exciting and new again. The audience gave these musicians a standing ovation. \

Nick, better known for his role of putting such stars as (among others) Rodney Dangerfield on the map here in Las Vegas and close friend of fellow golfer Dean Martin, being surrounded by these great cat's I have personally experienced what Las Vegas was in the hey day. I always enjoyed the pleasure of meeting those who hang at Fellini's (old school cat's) as I call them, that made Las Vegas what it was and is today. With the great stories, the food, and the well known entertainers that pass through nightly along with such a great piano player with his own stories of Old Vegas, Richard Bono, he makes me sound great! What better place to hang out.

SAMMY GETS HIS STAR

The Candy Man got his star on the street he helped make famous: Las Vegas Boulevard. In an emotional tribute that featured an appearance by his widow, Sammy Davis Jr. was honored by the Las Vegas Walk of Stars during a ceremony at the Riviera's Le Bistro Theatre. We learned that Davis' star in front of the Riviera soon will be joined by stars for fellow Rat Pack icons Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Davis impersonator Luis Velez started Thursday's ceremony with "Mr. Bojangles," and Clint Holmes brought the house down at the end with "I Got to Be Me." Davis' widow, Altovise Davis, told the crowd that she'll be forever grateful to Las Vegas for having the lights on the Strip dimmed on the day of his funeral in 1990. Davis never headlined at the Riviera, but he often joined Sinatra and Martin on stage there during the Rat Pack years. The Riv was Martin's main headliner home for many years.
